Top 10 Classic Rock Guitar Solos

Classic Rock magazine rated the following ten guitar solos as the best ever.  What we want to know is if you agree and if not what would your choices be?  Notice that this is “Classic Rock.”  This from Wikipedia-

In the United States, the classic rock format features music ranging generally from the mid-1960s to the late 1980s, primarily focusing on commercially successful hard rock popularized in the 1970s.

Keep that in mind when you’re deciding, and if you’re too young to have listened to any of these, do yourself a favor and listen to them all.  They are all available to play in the post.

1.  Stairway To Heaven – Jimmy Page/Led Zeppelin

2.  Comfortably Numb – David Gilmour/ Pink Floyd

3.  Hotel California  – Don Felder and Joe Walsh/Eagles

4.  Freebird- Allen Collins/Lynyrd Skynyrd

5.  All Along The Watchtower – Jimi Hendrix/The Jimi Hendrix Experience

6.  Eruption – Eddie Van Halen/Van Halen

7.  Killer Queen – Brian May/Queen

8.  Sweet Child Of Mine – Slash/Guns N Roses

9.  Purple Rain – Prince/Prince And The Revolution

10.  Paranoid- Tony Iommi/Black Sabbath

I love Stairway to Heaven as well as the next person but No. 1?  The following is my choice from Rory Gallagher.

Bullfrog Blues – 1980

One Comment:

  1. I agree about your questioning Stairway to Heaven” . I would have chosen the three solo done in one song by Randy Rhodes “Mr. Crowely” . Now thats some mind numbing guitar playing
